A safety-first overview of traditional uses, simple preparation methods, and key precautions.
What it is
Spotted lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis) is a spring-flowering woodland plant native to Europe. It is known for its spotted leaves and flowers that can shift from pink to blue as they mature.
Traditional uses
- Soothing irritated throat and cough in gentle tea blends.
- Traditional respiratory support during seasonal colds.
- Occasionally included in traditional blends for mild inflammation-related discomfort.
How it is prepared
The most common traditional preparation is an infusion (tea) of the dried aerial parts.
- Infusion (tea): pour hot water over the dried herb, cover, steep, then strain.
- Blend: combine with complementary respiratory herbs under practitioner guidance.
Safety-first notes
Evidence for many traditional uses is limited. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition, or take prescription medication, consult a qualified clinician before use. Stop use if you notice any adverse reaction.
